Bloomberg Television Features Steve Jobs, Who Dies at Age 56

Steve Jobs, one of the greatest of American innovators, died today at the age of 56.

 

Jobs, who resigned as Apple Inc. chief executive officer on Aug. 24, 2011, passed away today.  The creator of the iPhone who relinquished his position as CEO co-founded the company when he was 21.  Handing the CEO post to his hand-picked successor, Tim Cook, 6 weeks ago, Jobs became Apple’s chairman.  Yesterday, Cook released news about the iPhone 4S and today, this breaking news about the death of Steve Jobs.

The Former CEO battled cancer for years.  The tumor in Steve Jobs pancreas was found in 2003 and in 2004, doctors said that he only had 6 months to live but Jobs underwent pancreatic treatment.  In 2009, he had a liver transplant.  

Bill Gates said, “I will miss Steve immensely.”  Apple also mentioned that Steve Jobs is a tech visionary.  Jobs, a computer entrepenuer fusing technology and artistry, started Apple with a high school friend in a Silicon Valley garage in 1976 but he was forced out a decade later.  He returned in 1997 to rescue the company.  From there, Apple grew into one of the biggest in technology with a market value of $351 billion.  And he propelled a cultural transformation through Apple.  Jobs changed the way people buy and listen to music.  He did have a lot of impact in the music industry and helped troubled music industry.

If you grew up in the Apple era and you have every Apple product in your pocket, bag, office or home… this feels like losing your bestfriend.  The charismatic Steve Jobs who people listened to with baited breath when he discusses or speaks about the latest Apple announcements :(
